Once your braces are removed, we will still see you for the retention phase of your treatment which will last approximately 2 years.
Wearing your retainers exactly as prescribed is absolutely essential in maintaining the results achieved during your active orthodontic treatment. Failure to do so will lead to relapse.

Removable retainers

Remember to follow all the care instructions given to you on the day your retainers were fitted. Never use hot water to clean your retainer and don’t drink any hot drinks with your retainer in your mouth. This will cause distortion of the appliance.
If the retainer is not worn for a period of time, the teeth will move and the retainer will not fit properly. Don’t allow this to happen, but if it does, call us as soon as possible for an appointment.

Fixed retainers

Fixed retainers are cemented directly to the inside surfaces of your front teeth. This is one of the best ways to prevent your lower front teeth to move after orthodontic treatment.
Patients with fixed retainers must be careful when biting as the bonding material may break when biting on hard or sticky foods and cause the teeth to shift very quickly. As with removable retainers, it is important to keep fixed retainers clean. Make sure to clean the inside of your lower teeth as well as the retainer wire.
